Acupuncture Migraine Specialist: 5 Steps to Prepare for a First-time Visit

Acupuncture Headache Specialist 5 Steps to Prepare for a First-time Visit

You may have just started experiencing re-occurring Migraines, or maybe they have become a chronic nuisance. Whichever the case, finding an effective treatment for lasting relief is important but can be challenging.

Fast Relief Acupuncture is Bergen County’s leading migraine specialist, providing lasting holistic treatments to eliminate migraines safely and completely. Here are five things you should know to best prepare for your appointment.

Get to know your health from the inside-out, especially your migraine / headache- You will want to know the ins and outs of your headache issue. To better evaluate your symptoms, look at the “Five W’s and an H” strategy below. Answer the questions as they relate to your unique headache condition.

WHO

Do you or anyone in your family experience frequent headaches and/or suffer from severe migraines? It is always helpful and important to know your family history regarding any conditions that they or you may have. Our acupuncture specialist will greatly benefit from receiving information that will help provide a detailed and effective treatment plan based off of your family history.

WHAT

What type of symptoms do you feel when having a migraine attack? Write down highly descriptive words such as, stabbing, tingling, pounding, pulsing, or burning. To know your symptoms is to know your headache. Your acupuncturist will be able to identify other body parts affected by your headache and if there are other issues that need to be addressed.

WHEN

When do your headaches occur? Do they appear at specific times, such as at night or after a stressful day? Be as specific as possible, as this can help your specialist identify important triggers that may be causing your discomfort.

WHY

Why do your headaches occur? What are those triggers that cause the migraine? Is it stress, exercise, sleep? All of these could be a trigger. Write down what you were doing when the migraine began.

HOW

How long does your migraine last? Minutes, hours, days? When does your migraine feel the worst? Does it become the worst right away or does it gradually climb in severity?

Here are some tips prior to your initial visit that can greatly aid in your recovery!

Jot down everything- In order to keep your “Five Ws and an H” strategy organized; it is helpful to write everything down in a notebook. Your migraine specialist will devise a plan for your treatment based on your history and current symptoms along with your treatment goals. Keeping a journal in a notebook can greatly aid in deciphering exactly what you need to find headache/ migraine relief.

Know your own medical history- Believe it or not, many patients come to us without a recollection of their own medical histories. During the consultation, our staff gets to know you on a personal basis, including any conditions, medical issues, or medications taken in the past. The information portrayed within these areas will help determine what may be the root cause of your migraine issue, plus harness any important treatment measures for future appointments. To best prepare for your consultation appointment, take the time to gather your medical records from previous doctors, especially ones that you may have visited for the same issue.

Write down questions to ask your therapist- In the same notebook that you write your symptoms, jot down questions or concerns that you wish to address during your consultation appointment or during the appointments after. We realize that this may be your first time trying a natural treatment such as acupuncture. With all first-time experiences come a bound of nerves and a multitude of questions. Our office staff is here to answer any question you may have and calm your concerns.  When you write down questions as you think of them, you will be able to focus more on your consultation rather than stressing over remembering what you may think you have missed.

Come with an open mind- Acupuncture is a natural, proven, and cost-effective treatment that is quite different than a regular doctor appointment. With that being said, come with an open mind. The experience may be daunting for the first time; however, we will make sure you are comfortable, relaxed and that you leave excited to experience your next appointment with us!

Equipping yourself with the tools above will enhance your first-time acupuncture experience at Fast Relief Acupuncture. Being prepared and willing is the first step in finding lasting migraine relief! Call us today to set up a free consultation appointment.

The Importance of Proper Posture While Working from Home

Whether you’re at home or in the office, exhibiting proper posture can benefit your mental and physical well-being. Here at Fast Relief Acupuncture, we strive to educate our patients on the importance of posture and to provide top notch natural treatment for those that suffer from improper posture related ailments. John Kim, L.Ac., owner of Fast Relief Acupuncture, proudly serves Northern New Jersey as a posture specialist, certified by the American Posture Institute.

Proper posture establishes life-long health benefits

The Coronavirus Pandemic has brought millions of office jobs into the homes of employees, many without the proper equipment such as a desk, an office chair, et. When humans become vulnerable to a more relaxed environment, shifts may occur to otherwise normal practices, such as proper posture. Without access to an office desk and chair, employees may find themselves working hunched over the dining room table or even sprawled out on the couch. This type of posture can create an array of physical and mental issues to include, weakness of muscles and ligaments, overall poor physical condition, decreased confidence, deficits of neurological factors, pain in the neck and back, and mental illnesses, such as depression.

According to the American Posture Institute, there is a direct link between correct postural alignment and cognitive functions. When proper 90-degree alignment is achieved while sitting, employees can experience greater happiness, confidence, positivity, and better memory. All these outcomes help increase workflow and overall productivity while continuing a career from home.

Physically, good posture habits can strengthen well-being over the course of a lifetime. When proper posture is achieved, there is ultimately less strain being placed on the muscles, ligaments, and bones throughout the neck, back and lower extremities. Over time, this can strengthen the body instead of producing weak areas. Good posture practices also encourage valuable blood circulation, which keeps the body healthy and the extremities oxygenated while keeping pain at bay.

What are other positive attributes to forming a proper posture?

There are many positive effects produced when good posture is implemented.

  • Alignment of bones, which decreases wear and tear of bones, joints and muscles
  • Reduced risk of arthritis
  • Promotes good muscle balance throughout the body
  • Increases overall energy
  • Improves appearance by increasing confidence

What are at-home ways that one can actively practice good posture?

Along with locating an appropriate desk and sturdy chair, employees working from home can purposefully form better habits related to good posture techniques. When sitting at a desk, be sure to place your feet flat on the floor, thighs being parallel, have your knees slightly higher than the hips, keep your back straight with shoulders comfortably back, with legs uncrossed and be sure to move about or change positions frequently, typically every 20 minutes.

How can acupuncture help employees achieve proper posture benefits?

Acupuncture is an ancient treatment that heals the body naturally through the insertion of tiny, hair-like needles. When receiving treatment, the goal is to find pain-free relaxation and ultimate healing. Fast Relief Acupuncture has in depth knowledge related to treating ailments associated with improper posture, such as pain and stress. During treatment, the body is stimulated to produce natural, pain-relieving hormones and provide a relaxing, stress-free, lasting sensation.

Acupuncture, along with practicing good posture techniques, can alleviate symptoms resulting from a work-from-home environment, such as utilizing improper equipment, ultimately leading to posture failures.

Working in a new environment does not have to be stressful. Let Fast Relief Acupuncture become your go-to for natural treatment and healing.

Do you have trouble breathing while wearing facemask? You are not alone.

With the standardized practice of social distancing due to the pandemic, it has become normal to wear your facemask whenever you are out in public. Whether the facemask is made out of paper, cloth, or a specialized filter substance, breathing has become much more difficult when the mask covers your mouth. While the masks do not completely suffocate the person wearing it, it has become a hindrance to normal breathing function. The reason for this is because we are not used to having anything covering our mouths for an extended time normally and our breathing/ lung capacity is very limited. Also, as we age, our lung functions and their overall capacity diminish. When this occurs, people tend to take shorter breaths where not enough oxygen is inhaled and more carbon dioxide is released from our body. This is phenomena is commonly seen in people who have panic attacks, for example, and can result in someone becoming lightheaded or mentally disoriented which can lead them to passing out.

Can we increase our breathing/ lung capacity? This should certainly help us breathe easier and increase our oxygen intake while wearing a mask, right? The answer to that question is YES! By increasing the our lung capacity, we not only increase oxygen intake into our body’s system to help us function at an optimal level but it can make our breathing and help us participate in rigorous activities and sports much easier. Here are some benefits to having increased lung functions”

  • Stronger respiratory muscles
  • Optimization of breathing
  • Improved lung functions
  • Increased oxygen to the brain, hence a clearer and more focused mind
  • Increased oxygen to your muscles, hence positive effect on physical shape and performance
  • Improved stamina and endurance

So, what are some of the activities that can be done to increase our lung capacity and help us breathe easier with our facemasks on? Here are some of the things that YOU can do today to help you breathe better.

  • Acupuncture: There are many acupuncture points on the body that help restore and increase the function of the lung organ. The points are located throughout the body which can help the lung expand more efficiently and increase the overall intake into the body. There are treatment options that can also help body develop a better posture for the back and the neck, clear the nasal passages, and increase the respiratory functions of the body. Acupuncture is very proven, simple, effective, and safe treatment that can help heal the body naturally.
  • Diaphragmatic Breathing: This type of breathing techniques optimizes the ‘belly’ to do the heavy lifting of the breathing allowing the lungs to do less. This technique is usually done in a calm, relaxed state and is commonly used in meditation exercises. For more information, click here for part 1 and here for part 2.
  • Pushing Out: This is stretching exercise focuses on elongating your body to stretch out your diaphragm, your spine, and rib cage. Having these muscles loose and limber will help with your overall breathing. Start by standing with an upright posture with both knees loose. Bend over at the waist while pushing out all the air from your lungs. Slowly rise to a standing position while inhaling. When your lungs are full, hold your breath for 20 seconds. When counting to 20, raise your arms over your head and then relax as you exhale slowly and lower your arms. Repeat four times.
  • Rib Stretch: This is almost similar to the Diaphragmatic Breathing mentioned previously with the only difference now mostly focused on the lung rather than the diaphragm. Standing upright, begin by exhaling all the air out of your lungs. Slowly start to breathe in, allowing your lungs to be full at maximum capacity. Try and hold the air for 20 seconds. While counting, place your hands on your hips with the thumbs facing forward and pinkies toward the back. Relax and exhale slowly. Repeat three times.

With any exercises or stretches, they should be done slowly and be done up to your capacity to prevent any injuries. There is no need to push your self or your body. Like anything else, consistent practice will strengthen your lungs and their capacity!

How Clumped Blood Cells Can Harm You

It’s inevitable that everyone on this planet has gotten sick at least once in their lifetime. Once someone gets sick, the foreign invaders such as bacteria, viruses, or chemical substances tries to take over the body. They attach to red blood cells which carries important substance called oxygen that gives and sustains life to all living organisms. If oxygen is deprived, parts of the human body begins to deteriorate and becomes weakened beginning at the lungs (since oxygen gases are exchanged within the lungs primarily) then eventually spreading throughout the whole body.

The human body’s reaction when a foreign invader such as a bacterium or a virus enters the body is that it sends antibodies to combat them. Antibodies are the immune systems soldiers that attach and attack antigens (i.e. viruses, bacteria, chemical substances, etc..) and tries to eliminate them out from the body. This reaction occurs in the blood stream where the antibodies flow freely.

With the red blood cells carrying the antibodies to fight antigens, these blood cells tend to aggregate with each other and begin to ‘clump’. If there is an over- abundance of ‘clumping’ of t red blood cells, it can affect the body negatively. While it is more common to see this on someone who is sick, it can also occur on healthy individuals with underlying disorders such as high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, etc…

A simple comparison of how ‘clumping’ of the blood cells affects the body is to visualize a typical traffic jam on a highway. When there are many vehicles traveling on one road, not only does it slow down the rate and speed of travel, but it also takes longer for many to arrive to their intended destination. If this applies to the human body, it can cause many dire health problems.

Some of these examples include:

  • Limits oxygen and other helpful nutrients to travel throughout the body efficiently via the blood stream
  • Increases the risk of several cardiac diseases because oxygen travel is limited
  • Immune system cells such as leukocytes are limited in being dispersed throughout the body
  • Increases bacterial, viral, and fungal growth allowing these pathogens to replicate
  • Decreases the absorption of certain medications and supplements

Is there a way to ‘de- clump’ these blood cells? The answer to this question is YES! Fast Relief Acupuncture offers a unique, minimally invasive, and effective treatments that can help reduce the ‘clumping’ of the blood cells. This innovative treatment (each treatment for 30 minutes) can help:

  • Can increase electron zeta potential of the red blood cells to repel off each other and not clump
  • Allows immune cells to travel freely to the vascular system
  • Decreases bacterial, viral, and fungal growth and prevent them from duplicating within the blood streams
  • Can increase and improve the absorption with certain drugs and supplements
  • Can help assist eliminate pathogens (foreign invaders of the body) out of the blood leading the immune system to be less overwhelmed

Fast Relief Acupuncture is dedicated to providing specialized and ground-breaking treatment to help keep you healthy during these uncertain times. We pride ourselves in introducing a safe, cost-effective, and natural way to not only provide relief, but to heal your ailments. We look forward to getting you on the road to complete recovery!

How Your Legs Can Help Your Immune System

In today’s current state of the pandemic, many people are worried if their body’s immune system is strong enough resist any viral infections. While there are many things that can be done to increase one’s immune system (click here for more information), there is one specific point that can not only help with your immune system but does many other wonderful things to help maintain the body to be healthy. Let’s further examine on how this point can help the body.

The point is located approximately 3 inches below the knee cap, towards the meaty portion of the shin. Traditionally, this point in acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine was used to increase person’s energy, promote good appetite and digestion, and to calm a person’s mind. This acupuncture point is commonly used in many acupuncture treatment protocols for what it can positively do the body.

Recent research has confirmed that stimulating this point actually releases anti- stress hormones into the body to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. The study confirmed that there is pathway within the brain that is involved in the production of the stress hormone cortisol and targeted by some anti-anxiety and anti- depressants drugs (click here for more information).

Another recent research on this acupuncture point has shown promise by how it positively it affects the immune system. One research shows that it can help control the inflammation caused by sepsis (a life threatening complication of infection). According to the study, the reason for antisepsis “might include reducing oxidative stress and inflammation, improving microcirculatory disturbance, and maintaining the immune balance mediated by dopamine.” (click here for more information).

Fast Relief Acupuncture is currently using a very innovative technique on modulating and strengthening the immune system. By using proper frequencies of electric stimulation on this point, it can help combat viral and bacterial attacks on the human tissue while preserving healthy tissues and strengthening the immune system within the body. It can also reduce cytokine storm (immune system gone haywire and attacking pathogens and healthy tissues) which is commonly found in viral respiratory infections. The procedure is safe, beneficial to your health, and painless. Contact Fast Relief Acupuncture today to set up your appointment to help your immune system!

Natural Ways to Boost Your Immune System

So, what can you do to protect yourself against the new coronavirus and other germs? Here are some natural, healthy tips that can help you boost your immune system!

Practice good hygiene. Nothing beats or kills most bacteria and viruses with simple 20 seconds of washing your hands with soap. Being and keeping a clean appearance can help prevent the spread of diseases, especially when skin contact is very common. The CDC has published additional guidelines on how to prevent exposure to and spread of the new coronavirus which you can click here.

Get enough sleep. Prolonged lack of healthy sleep (less than 7 hours) can be stressful to the body, increasing in the production of the stress hormone called cortisol. With long term, amplified levels of cortisol, the human body’s immune system becomes compromised. Recent research supports that healthy amounts of sleep (7 to 9 hours) activate important functions of the immune response, occuring during different stages of sleep and being regulated by the circadian systems.

Manage your stress. Physical and mental stress can suppress the immune system. Similar to how lack of sleep can affect a person’s immune system due to the excessive release of cortisol in the body, stress can also have the same negative effect. To better manage your stress levels, there are several options such as being physically active, starting and enjoying a new hobby, meditation and breathing properly (please click here to learn more about diaphragm breathing), getting acupuncture treatment, etc…Remember, a Happier You is a Healthier You! (Click here on how acupuncture can help reduce your stress)

Eat plenty healthy foods such as fresh produce, proteins, probiotics, omega oils. These important nutrients commonly found in our foods are essential to boosting the immune system.  According to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the better you feed your body with the nutrients, the better it functions and can avoid chronic and acute diseases. Conversely, eating foods high in sugar and fats (yes even alcohol), can be detrimental to your immune system. A simple way to look at this is that most of the immune system cells are developed within the abdomen or the ‘gut’. A ‘healthy gut’ equates to a healthy body, where elimination of harmful foreign elements is very much needed.

Stay physically active. According to the Cleveland Clinic, it is any physical activity that ‘gets your heart rate up to 50 to 60 percent higher than its rate when you are at rest.’ Some of these activities include:

Walking two miles in 30 minutes.

Biking five miles in 30 minutes.

Swimming laps for 20 minutes.

Running one and a half miles in 15 minutes.

Doing water aerobics for 30 minutes.

Playing volleyball for 45 minutes.

Playing pick-up basketball for 20 minutes.

Jumping rope for 15 minutes.

Walking stairs for 15 minutes.

Washing your car for 45 minutes to an hour.

Gardening for 30 to 45 minutes.

Raking leaves for 30 minutes.

Dancing for 30 minutes.

Keep in mind these activities should be done at the person’s own pace. In a study published in April 2018’s Aging Cell, there is evidence that older adults who exercise regularly can keep their immune systems functioning similar to people who are decades younger. One thing to keep in mind is that high intensity or extreme exercising can be detrimental to the immune system because it can be too stressful for the body.

Get some Sun. With spring and summer soon approaching, the warmer weather brings out more sunshine! Sunlight stimulates the body to produces vitamin D which helps boost your immune system. According to 2010 study in kids showed that 1200 IU a day of supplemental vitamin D reduced the risk of influenza A. It also showed that a low vitamin D levels correlate with a greater risk of respiratory infection.

Fast Relief Acupuncture is dedicated to guiding you through these challenging times. We pride ourselves in introducing, educating, and offering a safe and natural way to help improve your body’s overall function. We look forward to getting you on the road to complete recovery!

Fast Relief Acupuncture Utilizes ACP Recommended Treatment for Lower Back Pain

Fast Relief Acupuncture specializes in what the American College of Physicians (ACP) is calling “recommended, evidence-based, non- invasive treatment” for lower back pain. An article, published by the ACP, outlines conclusions formed by clinical studies which aimed to discover the best treatment options for acute, subacute and chronic lower back pain. The study results state that the ACP recommends non-invasive treatments, such as acupuncture, over commonly prescribed or over-the-counter medications to treat lower back pain.

Acupuncture was found to be a key alternative treatment to heal lower back ailments.

Following closely with the physician recommended guidelines, Fast Relief Acupuncture indulges in natural treatments for lower back pain healing, rather than those that provide temporary pain relief.

Lower Back Pain Effects Many

The American College of Physicians study states that approximately 25% of United States adults suffer from a type of lower back pain or injury at least once a day. A large portion of these patients turn to over-the-counter or prescribed medications, such as Acetaminophen or opioids, to relieve their aches and pains. Instead of providing long-lasting results, pain medications are temporary remedies that burn a hole in the buyer’s pocket and can be detrimental to one’s health.

According to the ACP, Acetaminophen and/ or opioids are not effective treatment measures to reduce or eliminate lower back pain over time.

Big pharmaceuticals are making money from temporary treatments. Natural treatments, however, induce long-lasting pain relief with the goal of healing.

How Does Acupuncture Help Lower Back Pain?

Acupuncturists at Fast Relief Acupuncture are top-notch specialists who are bringing highly innovative, natural treatments to patients in Northern New Jersey. Fast Relief Acupuncture specializes in treatment of lower back pain, enabling patients to experience pain relief and healing. Natural treatments, like acupuncture, have become the most recommend way to relieve pain quickly and effectively.

Combined with other non-invasive treatments, such as the application of heat and taking herbal medicines, acupuncture can provide an ultimate overall treatment for lower back pain ailments and injuries.

How Can I Get Started?

Five Ways Acupuncture Helps Migraines

Whether you suffer from severe migraines on a daily basis, or they rattle your brain only a few times a year, finding a working solution can be a pain, pun intended!

There are countless times when traditional medicine simply does not work, but, where else is there to turn? Believe it or not, Fast Relief Acupuncture may have the potential cure that you have been looking so hard for.

Acupuncture was first discovered and used in ancient China when it was believed to help channelize "Qi", or energy, found in 12 main channels called meridians. The meridians were said to represent the major organs and functions of the body.

When individuals develop diseases, it is believed that the channels, or meridians, that allow the energy to flow are blocked. Acupuncture is a process where thin metal needles are placed along the blocked channels. The channels will become unblocked which ultimately allows the "Qi" to flow freely once again.

Over the next few centuries this practice developed into an important health, diet, massage and heat therapy in China. Acupuncture's popularity eventually spread wide and far, even reaching the United States, where it has become a highly sought-after way to manage pain.

HOW CAN ACUPUNCTURE HELP MIGRAINES?

Does the above process sound interesting to you? If you've been suffering from migraine pain, Acupuncture could work for you. Here are five ways that Acupuncture relieves migraine pain.

  • Acupuncture is believed to directly affect the Autonomic Nervous System (ANS). The ANS is defined as "the part of the nervous system responsible for control of the bodily functions not consciously directed, such as breathing, heart-rate, and digestive processes". Acupuncture can promote the release of hormones called endorphins and relaxins, which ultimately control your ANS by providing natural pain medication and the sense of relaxation, which is highly important to migraine sufferers.
  • Acupuncture also works with your Central Nervous System (CNS), which consists of nerve tissues that control the brain and spinal cord. When Acupuncture needles are inserted, it is believed that the needle stimulates Delta Fibers which control the closing of the brain receptors that recognize pain.
  • Evidence shows that the practice of Acupuncture can aid the body in releasing natural morphine-like substances by stimulating the Opioidlergic System. Don't worry, you won't need a prescription!
  • Trials using Acupuncture to suppress migraines have shown amazing results when it comes to long-term pain management. One trial in particular, studied the Nociceptive Trigeminal Nucleus Caudalis (that's a mouthful!), or better known as the human body's "migraine center". During the study, Acupuncture suppressed the migraine center by releasing neurotransmitters that stopped the feelings of pain (Murray, S. 2018).
  • Acupuncture is not only medically proven to aid in the suppression of migraines, but it is also a natural, healthy way of healing the body. A doctor can prescribe you medicine for pain management, however, an Acupuncture specialist can naturally rid of your migraines by using a cost-effective, typically pain-free method!

10 Ways Acupuncture Relieves Stress at Work

Today, more than ever, Americans are dedicating copious amounts of hours to work. Normal, typical working hours during the week are a thing of the past as professionals take on extra over-time gigs to grab promotions, finish work and provide for their families. Stressful work environments have caused our generation to bring jobs home with us, push through our sick days, and ignore the ability to take a paid vacation. Although this new generation has earned the right to be called, "hardworking and dedicated", the extra work is wreaking havoc on our bodies.

There may not be a solution to ease your workload, but there is a natural, effective way to relief the stress that you accumulate during the week (and even on the weekends for the overachievers out there). Acupuncture can help to relax your mind and rest your busy body. Here are ten ways that acupuncture can be beneficial if you work in a stressful environment:

1) Minimizes stress and relieves tension- Acupuncture appointments take place in a relaxing, stress-free environment (there will be no bosses lurking over your shoulder!). As you escape the outside world, an acupuncturist will begin opening up blocked channels throughout your body that will enable proper energy to flow freely once again. This will revive your body, ultimately releasing stress hormones and reducing anxiety by providing an outlet for finding inner happiness.

2) Creates a relaxed posture which ultimately reduces muscle and joint pain- When your body is constantly tense, especially if you sit at a computer most of the day, your muscles and joints will stiffen up, causing aches and pains. Acupuncture can help your body relax. When your body relaxes, the mind relaxes, reducing the physical pressures on the rest of your body.

3) Allows for frequent headache relief- Demands of the job including over-time hours, heavy workloads, multiple daily meetings or stressful managers can cause an unwanted string of headaches. Studies have shown that acupuncture can actually suppress the body's "migraine center" by releasing neurotransmitters in the brain that stop the feelings of pain.

4) You could gain better sight- Although acupuncture cannot fix your 20/60 vision, it can help relieve neck tension which is directly correlated with vision issues such as fuzziness or fogginess. Staring at a computer screen for 8+ hours a day can take a toll on your vision by causing your eyes to become tired. Adding an acupuncture session to your week can reset your sights on a stress-free day of typing. It is also believed to help cure diseases such as cataract disease and glaucoma!

5) Provides more vacation days and less sick days- Yes, even YOU need a vacation day! We know that you love to work but enabling yourself to take a break occasionally is important for your health. Acupuncture can fight off bad pathogens by promoting your bodily systems to work more effectively while boosting your immune system! Instead of taking a sick day, feel well enough to fly somewhere tropical!

6) Zaps a fuzzy mind and channels increased energy- There are some days when it seems impossible to complete the pile of work in front of you. Whether you believe it is a lack of caffeine or a deprivation of sleep, it is probably your overall health that has suffered from your constant and demanding schedule. Acupuncture can be used to relieve the blocked channels in your body, which will then rid of stress and release "feel good" hormones called endorphins and relaxins which aid in increased energy and better sleep.

7) No more running to the bathroom! - Acupuncture regulates digestive issues by enabling the body's systems to work together in unison. When our body is in homeostasis, our organs work properly. Regular acupuncture appointments mean no more embarrassing sprints to the bathroom.

8) Provides relief from allergies- Acupuncture treatments have greatly advanced over the last decade. In fact, researchers have implemented a specific treatment that is 80-90% effective at improving, and in some cases curing, allergies! Soliman Auricular Allergy Treatment is a quick and simple acupuncture treatment. After a period of three weeks, the patient can not only be free from seasonal allergies, but even allergies to medications and foods. Say goodbye to Claritan filled days of work and hello to being medication free!

9) Curbs the snacker- Do you spend your workday snacking away at your desk? Have you spent all your spare quarters on the overpriced packages of chips and pretzels in your company's vending machine? Snacking can cause unwanted weight gain and unhealthy eating habits, which in turn causes stress from a self-love point of view. Acupuncture can help curb your junk cravings by detoxing your body! Acupuncture treatments release hormones that enable the body to refocus on what's most important, being healthy!

10) You will have fewer bodily injuries- Workers today are missing days because of injuries on-the-job, often due to overworked bodies and exhausted minds. Although we cannot totally avoid on-the-job injuries, acupuncture can prevent the need for surgery or even medications if an injury does occur. Acupuncture releases natural morphine-like substances. By quickly and naturally healing your body, you will be less stressed about missing important days of work.

The benefits of acupuncture's ability to fight stress are limitless. Working may always cause certain levels of stress, but regular acupuncture appointments can decrease the affects that stress will have on your body short-term and long-term. Put your health first and you will be able to give more to your job, your family and yourself.

How the Diaphragm Helps Maintain Proper Posture

Breathing Properly to Fix the Lower Back Problem

In a previous post, we have discussed the importance of a relaxed diaphragm and how it helps to regulate all of the major internal organs of the body. Often the diaphragm can be constricted due to the forward flexion of the human body, causing problems especially within the digestive and cardiovascular systems. Now we are going to discuss how the diaphragm can help the musculo-skeletal aspect of the body especially when it pertains to maintaining a proper posture.

Anatomically, the lower portion of the diaphragm sits on top of an important muscle known as the iliopsoas muscles. If the diaphragm is expanded to its fullest, the lower portion of it also stretches the iliopsoas muscles. The iliopsoas muscles are play a vital role in supporting the lower back and allowing a person to stand up ‘straight’. Located on both sides of the front lower portion of the spine and connecting to the front of the thigh bone, they allow the upper portion of the body to bend forward (similar to bowing) and also raises the thighs/ legs during movement such as walking or sitting. In this post, we are going to discuss how the diaphragm can help the musculo-skeletal aspect of the body when it pertains to maintaining a proper posture.

Iliopsoas muscles can become tight and restricted under many circumstances. The most common cause is that due to being seated for a long period of time. Due to sedentary lifestyles of working in front of a desk or commuting for many hours within a day in a seated position, the body is constantly in a seated position. It is during these long hours that causes these muscles to contract and eventually get ‘stuck’. When the iliopsoas becomes shortened and tightened, a primary pain symptom in the lower back develops especially when a person rises from a seated position or complains when they have to ‘bend forward’ to pick up something. A person would typically walk in ‘bent over’ posture to get any relief from the pain in the lower back.

There are many treatment options for this condition ranging from doing stretches to getting acupuncture, to properly release any tension of this muscle. One of the simplest things to do is to breathe through the diaphragm or the stomach. This is a simple exercise that can relax and increase the function of both the diaphragm and the iliopsoas muscles. Ideally, the person should be laying on their back have them breathe slowly and rhythmically. The key is when the person is inhaling, they shoulder fully expand the stomach (the stomach should be expanded at its fullest), causing the iliopsoas muscle to be stretched. Once stretched, the person then should exhale slowly (approximately twice as long it took them to inhale). This action should be done at minimum 20- 30 times per day. It is important to remember that if the diaphragm is expanded to its fullest, the lower portion of it also stretches the iliopsoas muscles.

Fast Relief Acupuncture has a very safe and effective treatment protocol in assisting/ guiding the body to naturally fix its posture along with the functional improvement of the diaphragm. The treatment consists of properly aligning the patient’s body along by releasing/ relieving any restricted muscles that can hinder a patient from standing upright. It is gentle, effective, and importantly can have long lasting results without the use of chemical substances or invasive surgeries.
